VICE ADM. JOSEPH MAGUIRE TO SERVE AS NCTC DEPUTY DIRECTOR FOR STRATEGIC OPERATIONAL PLANNING
U.S. Navy Vice Admiral Joseph Maguire assumed his responsibilities today as the National Counterterrorism Center’s Deputy Director for Strategic Operational Planning. Maguire was confirmed for promotion to vice admiral and appointment to this position by the U.S. Senate on June 28, 2007.
“Admiral Joe Maguire has an outstanding reputation as a leader. He understands the terrorist threat and has proven himself in a wide range of assignments as a SEAL and in key leadership positions with the Special Operations community,” said retired Vice Adm. John “Scott” Redd, Director, National Counterterrorism Center. “We are blessed to have him onboard to lead our nation’s integrated counterterrorism planning effort.”
As Deputy Director for Strategic Operational Planning, Maguire will be responsible for the planning and integration of existing U.S. Government counterterrorism activities, developing a common strategic direction for future operations, and assessing the effectiveness of U.S. Government counterterrorism efforts. He will be responsible for counterterrorism planning that integrates all instruments of national power, ensuring U.S. Government-wide integration of counterterrorism intelligence and operations across agency boundaries both domestically and internationally. This planning is manifested in efforts such as the “National Implementation Plan for the War on Terror,” which was approved by President Bush in June 2006.
Maguire’s previous posting was as Commander, Navy Special Warfare Command in San Diego where he was responsible for all the dedicated U.S. Navy special operations forces in the U.S. Special Operations Command. His U.S. Navy biography is available at www.navy.mil.
